Delete your Leafday data or account
Leafday — the diary app and monthly binder kit.
The fastest way: in the app
Deletion happens immediately and you can do it yourself:
- Open Leafday
- Go to Settings
- Tap Legal, your data & account (the last row)
- Tap Delete account at the bottom
- Type
DELETEto confirm
On earlier versions of the app there is no Legal, your data & account row: Delete account is at the bottom of Settings itself.
The same screen has Export my data, which saves every entry and photo as a zip file. Do that first if you want to keep anything — after deletion there is nothing left to recover.
Deleting some of it, and keeping the account
You do not have to delete the whole account to get rid of something. Inside the app, on the day you want to change:
- One photograph or video — open the menu (☰) at the top of the home screen, choose Remove photos, then tap the frame you want gone. It is removed from the page and from our storage.
- A whole day — the same menu, Delete this day, deletes the day's entry, with everything on both sides of the sheet, and takes down that day's story if one is up.
- The written side — open it, clear the text and save.
- A story — the same menu, Take your story down (it appears while a story is up). It is gone for your friends straight away, and so is any re-share of it by a friend you tagged; the picture is deleted. (A copy that a friend you tagged keeps in their Friends book, and a copy kept for a report, are the exceptions: see What is kept below.)
- A copy in your Friends book — open your Friends book on the shelf and remove it. That removes only your copy.
- A friend, a besty, or a block — on the Friends page, remove the friend or the besty, or unblock the person.
If you were tagged in a friend's story, you can decline the tag in the app; that also takes down your re-share of their page. Taking down a re-share never deletes the friend's story.
A story you leave up goes by itself 3 days after you posted it, and its re-shares go with it. Deleting a day takes that day's story down first; if the connection fails, the day is deleted anyway and the app tells you where to take the story down yourself. Changing a day, or removing a photograph from it, does not change a story that is already up, because the story is a separate picture of the day.
When you change a day's format to one with fewer frames than the day has photographs, the photographs that no longer have a frame are not deleted: they stay with that day, out of sight, and come back when you choose a format with room for them. They are deleted when you delete that day, or the account.
These happen straight away and need no request. Your account, and every other day, stays exactly as it was.
A day that has already been printed and posted cannot be un-printed — deleting it here removes our copy, not the paper in your binder.
If you can't get into the app
Email support@leafday.ca from the address you signed up with, with the subject Delete my account.
Requests are actioned within 30 days, and cover your friends data and your Friends book as well as your diary. We may ask you to confirm from your sign-up address before deleting anything, so that nobody else can delete your diary.
What gets deleted
- Every diary entry, including all text
- Every photo and video you captured
- Your shipping address and subscription record
- Your app preferences
- Your nickname, your friends, your besties, the people you blocked, the record of whom you tagged, and every story you have up, with every re-share of it (the picture and its record), except a copy kept for a report
- Your Friends book: every copy in it, including copies of other people's pages
- Your account itself and its sign-in credentials. If you signed in with Apple, Leafday's access to your Apple sign-in is ended too
All of it, permanently. Nothing is kept in a recoverable state, and there is no grace period — a deleted account cannot be restored by you or by us.
What is kept, and for how long
Records of payments and shipments are kept for as long as Canadian tax and business law requires (currently six years). These are billing records — an order date, an amount, a shipping address on a past shipment — and never the contents of your diary, your photos, or your videos.
Copies that friends hold. If you tagged a friend in a story, they were given a copy of that page in their Friends book. It is theirs: it stays there until they remove it, even after you take the story down, delete the day or delete your account. They will see it as from "a friend who left". Your own Friends book is deleted with the account.
Reports. A report stays if you reported a story, or one of yours was reported, even after the account is deleted. While the report is open it keeps a copy of the story's picture, and we delete that copy 90 days after we close the report. After that only the record stays, with no end date: the reason, the dates, and the IDs of the story and of the accounts involved, but no picture. Deleting your account does not shorten this.
If you have a kit on the way
Printed pages are produced from your entries. Deleting your account removes the entries, so any kit that has not shipped yet cannot be printed and will not be sent. If you would rather receive the kit you have already paid for, cancel your subscription in the app instead, and delete your account once it arrives.
